About Endometriosis and Endometriosis Pain

Endometriosis is a disorder that occurs when tissue similar to the endometrium is found outside the uterus as lesions on other parts of the body in the pelvic region.

Symptoms of Endometriosis

The most common symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain, which may coincide with menstruation or occur throughout a woman's cycle. Other symptoms vary, depending on where the lesions are located, and may include:

  • Long periods

  • Heavy menstrual flow

  • Cramps that do not go away with NSAIDs and/or affect normal activities

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Bowel and urinary disorders

  • Infertility

Endometriosis affects an estimated 1 in 10 women during their reproductive years. That's approximately 176 million women in the world

About the Study

We have partnered with Dr. Melillo of Kingsdale Gynecologic Associates and Myovant Sciences for research studies on new investigational medications for pain associated with endometriosis.

These clinical research studies evaluate an oral investigational medication to see if it may reduce moderate to severe pain associated with endometriosis.

These research studies will be conducted at Optimed Research, which is located in North Columbus. After you pre-qualify, the study staff (nurses and clinicians) will discuss additional details such as study duration, location, number of visits involved, and help answer any questions you may have.

As a study participant, your endometriosis will also be closely monitored by the study staff under the guidance of the study doctor. You will also receive the investigational medication and study-related tests and procedures at no cost.

Persons may qualify if they meet he following:

  • Are a premenopausal woman (between 18 to 49 years old)

  • Have been surgically diagnosed with endometriosis within the last 10 years

  • Experience moderate to severe pain due to endometriosis

  • Are not pregnant or actively trying to get pregnant

  • Do not have osteoporosis (thinning, weak bones) or any other bone disease

Participants who qualify and enroll will:

  • Receive study-related care, oral investigational medication, and nonhormonal birth control supplies at no cost

  • Receive close monitoring of your endometriosis pain and other symptoms by a gynecologist or other qualified physician

  • Have the opportunity to discuss your endometriosis pain and learn about your condition

Study participation may also help advance medical knowledge of endometriosis.
