WHAT IS AN IMMUNODEFICIENCY DISORDER?
An immunodeficiency disorder is a condition that prevents the body's natural defenses from fighting infection. These disorders are categorized as either primary or secondary immunodeficiency: present from birth or acquired after birth, respectively.
PIDD - PRIMARY IMMUNODEFICIENCY DISEASE
Primary immunodeficiency disease is a group of more than 300 rare, chronic disorders in which part of the body's immune system is missing or functions improperly. Although most PIDD is inherited and present at birth, they often do not become apparent or diagnosed until late childhood or even adult life.
PIDD can mimic other conditions including allergy, asthma, and eczema, so evaluation by an allergist or immunologist is extremely helpful to reach a diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan.
